Good research topics for mechanical engineers...thanks!?
You're talking about a pretty large field. Are you interested in fluid dynamics? Materials? Machine design? Biomechanics? The list can really go on.





The thing to do is narrow down your fields and then look at what's being studied for some inspiration. At the very least you should narrow yourself to a branch which contains a few areas in which you would like to concentrate.





Or, if you really need an idea:





Study the failure mechanisms of an implantable heart valve. You could do some finite element modeling of the cyclic loading and go to town! Mix in that turbulence in the blood can lead to life-threatening clots and you've got tons of problems to solve.
