I suggest writing about experimental colleges/universities like The Union Institute. The Union Institute is really weird because your specialization ie English, History, Sociology is based on your dissertation not on your course work. The Union Institute tries to rationalize this by saying its a PhD in Liberal Arts but graduates are selling themselves by the specialty.
Why is this bad?
If a PhD in French doesn't know one word of French he is useless. That's why most universities have a French curriculum and comprehensive examination.
