Im supposed to be doing an investigation on a topic in history it can range from prehistory to the present, im stuck of what to do. i have an idea, How religion influenced the rise of civilization. however my professor mentioned that the topic was too broad. and at the moment i cant seem to find any useful information on the topic and how to narrow it down. SO if anyone has any great ideas for a paper, please let me know or any suggestions to for the topic which i mention that will be great also.
Whats a good research paper topic for a upper divison college course in history?
Why not pick a particular religion and investigate the impact it had on a particular civilization that existed at its time?
E.g. What impact did Islam have on European civilization in the 9th Century A.D.?
Reply:Well, "the rise of civilization" sort of narrows it down for itself. See, that refers to the societies in the fertile crescent in the 4th millenium b.c. Specificly the Egyptians and Sumerians. "Civilization" in this context is the division of labour, the rise of bureaucracy etc. The priests played an important role in this story. So there you have your connection.
